Frequently Asked Questions

What is Let There Be Rock School?

Let There Be Rock School is a music-lesson facility and rock-and-roll community center in Gainesville, GA. Students from age 5 to adult learn guitar, bass, drums, keys, ukulele, and vocals — and can join bands that rehearse together and perform live at real venues.

What ages do you teach?

We teach students from age 5 through adult. Our current students range from 6 to 70 — it’s never too late to start, and we’re always forming new bands, including adult bands.

What instruments can I learn?

Students can learn guitar, bass, drums, keys/piano, ukulele, and vocals. Lessons work for total beginners through advanced players.

Do I need any experience to start?

No experience is needed. We welcome complete beginners as well as experienced players, and every lesson is tailored to the individual student’s level and goals.

How do lessons work?

You can take one-on-one private lessons, join our band-based program, or do both. In the band program, a weekly 30 minute private lesson is paired with a 60-90 minute group band rehearsal, so students build individual skills and then apply them playing with others.

Do students get to perform live?

Yes. Students in the band program work toward live performances at real rock-and-roll venues and festival-style shows, typically every 12 weeks. Having a real, reachable goal on stage is what keeps students motivated to practice.

Do you offer music camps?

Yes. We run rock camps — including one-week intensive “rock boot camps” for beginner to experienced players. Campers spend the week learning songs and playing in a band, and each camp ends with a live performance for family and friends. Learn more about our music camps in Gainesville, GA here.

Do you teach adults?

Yes. We teach adults at every level, from first-time beginners to returning players, and we form adult bands for those who want to play alongside others.

Do you work with homeschool families?

Yes. We’re a music-lesson resource for homeschool families in the Gainesville area.

Do you help theater or musical theater students?

Yes. We work with middle school, high school, and college theater students on their skills, their next show, and audition preparation.
